By Samantha Miernicki, PharmD
I am excited to join the AXON family as a yearlong fellow in a newly-established collaboration between AXON US and the Long Island University (LIU) Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy. As a 2018 PharmD graduate from LIU Pharmacy, I believe that AXON will be a great place for me to further develop my knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry while cultivating the foundational skills necessary for a successful pharmaceutical career.
Through the pharmacy curriculum at LIU, I was exposed to several potential career paths, including community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and the pharmaceutical industry. Being in the heart of Brooklyn, LIU Pharmacy allowed me to become involved in diverse facets of pharmacy across the five boroughs. Although I worked in a community pharmacy for 4 years and was also exposed to several hospital pharmacy settings, I was drawn to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry. After completing several internships within Medical Affairs departments of various companies, I discovered that pharmacists could impact healthcare on a much higher level through the creation and dissemination of medical materials. Once my eyes were opened to the possibility of working in pharma, I knew I had found the career path I wanted to pursue.
Due to my background in pharmacology and pharmacy, I am attracted to the scientific aspects of medical communications. However, I am also eager to use my creativity while gaining an agency perspective into the pharmaceutical industry. Throughout this fellowship, I am hoping to learn about the inner workings of a medical communications agency, while contributing hands-on in the creation of medical content for pharmaceutical clients.
Although I have only been here for a few days, I already know that I am going to have a great experience during this fellowship. From the welcoming and enthusiastic nature of the employees to the opportunities I will be presented with, I am looking forward to learning and growing here at AXON. I cannot wait to see all that I will have accomplished at the completion of this fellowship.
