The coast of Ecuador experienced devastation on April 17, 2016, when an earthquake, measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, struck and killed hundreds, destroying buildings, homes and roads. Navi, who cleans our London offices every day during lunchtime, is from Ecuador, and her family’s home in the village of San Isidro was destroyed during the quake.
In true AXON and Madano style, we discussed ways in which we could show compassion during this distressing time, and give Navi our support. A number of representatives from AXON London and Madano, as well as Eva, who works closely with Navi and cleans our offices in the evenings, joined forces to form the VivaEcuador! Team to organize Ecuador Day, a dedicated fundraising event which took place on May 13, 2016.
Ecuador Day had an excellent turnout; fundraising activities included a village fête fancy dress, representing the Ecuadorian flag, and a food and bake sale that included genuine Ecuadorian empanadas, homemade by Eva. In addition, a member of the Madano team is dedicating proceeds from a sponsored cycle challenge, Vélo Ventoux, due to take place over the next few weeks. We are incredibly pleased and proud to announce that a total of almost £800 was raised by AXON and Madano employees. AXON London and Madano then agreed to raise this sum to a grand total of £1,500, which was truly fantastic. This money will be donated directly to Navi’s family, and we hope it will go some way toward helping them get through this difficult time.
