During the first week of December, I had the opportunity to represent AXON Communications and Long Island University (LIU) College of Pharmacy at the 2018 American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in Anaheim, CA. The ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition is the largest gathering of pharmacists in the world, and has been occurring annually for the past four decades. With this year’s theme of “Some Midyear Magic”, pharmacists from across the nation gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ASHP Foundation, with keynote speaker entrepreneur (CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises), philanthropist (chairman and CEO of the Magic Johnson Foundation), and National Basketball Association Hall of Fame point guard Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr.

Aside from serving as a forum for networking with colleagues, the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition provides numerous opportunities to its attendees, including platforms for continuing and advancing education, interviewing for potential careers, presenting research posters, and learning about the latest products and technologies within the healthcare field.

Last year I attended the 2017 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in Orlando, FL, as a pharmacy student pursuing potential industry fellowship roles. This year, as a Medical Communications Fellow, I was proud to attend the 2018 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition as a representative of AXON Communications and LIU Pharmacy. I had the privilege of interacting with various AXON clients and pharmacy colleagues, recruiting potential fellowship candidates, and exploring the educational exhibits on display. I also attended networking events where I discussed the countless opportunities I have been afforded through this collaboration between AXON Communications and LIU Pharmacy.

It was an engaging and interactive experience that has contributed to both my personal and professional development, as a pharmacist and a Medical Communications Fellow. I am thankful to have had this experience and I look forward to attending the 2019 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition next year.
